FiveStone braves the comic book look and it looks good thought it’s a bit tedious to navigate. Still it’s a nice looking site with good portfolio. It even features a pac man game.

I haven’t really finished initiating this site but I’ve got lots of content thats just waiting to be talked of.
Pixel Perfect, a very nice looking site and a variety of interesting takes on putting forth a gallery. Haven’t seen many husband and wife sites though I haven’t really been searching but this one’s really nice. I’ve noticed the cool pulling the edges of pages implemented in their photo gallery which I’ve seen before but still nice to see again. It’s a very vintage looking site with a hint of regalness with a lot of interesting ideas, I especially like that ink fade that randomly occurs.

The header was simple to do though looking from the lag that is observed when viewing this site on a Mac Mini it looks like my code could be better but I’m not bothered enough to change it sadly. I’ve seen this flash-writing technique done horribly by a lot of people because they don’t script it. They would draw the finished image and use a masking layer on top and on each frame show more of the image eith the masking frame but this is slow, tedious and makes editing a pain. I’ve simply made Flash put a ink splodge in predetermined specific places. To use this method is simple if you know some simple actionscript namely: Arrays, for, duplicateMovieClip and something about editing arrays and the properties of movieclips. This method reads from a predertermined source so it can quickly tell where everything goes and so you have to give it a little thought on how you want this source to be recorded. I’ve used arrays because it’s simple to use and manipulate with flash. So we have our data to say where ink splodge should be placed what we need to know now is how the ink splodges are to be laid down. As you should’ve guessed with the duplicateMovieClip. The splodge is just a movie clip itself and remember to use the duplicateMovieClip function you need to use have a first initial movie clip to duplicate from. We use the for function to simply do the repeatitive task of duplicating the movie clip, read the array and position the movie clip. Wait a minute this sounds terrible because now we to write a massive passage for our array. Wait again! We can dodge that bullet by making a drawing editor that records where to put the movieclips as an array that we can copy to put into our original flash. I’ll leave you guys to figure that out, it shouldn’t be so hard.
If you need to know about the actionscript language used in this post refer to Kirupa and to TonyPa

I’ve had this site in mind for a whole year and since then it’s been rotting my mind. It was originally called Scribbled Wall but it wasn’t to be. It took a whole year until now because of this first post, and because of it I’ve had the under construction page up for Scribbled Wall since which disappoints me because I’d spent quite some time on it and it wasn’t the right way to appreciate it, but I’ll talk about that another time. For both this site and Scribbled Wall I had finished doing a decent layout but I just didn’t lay down a first post until now. I had content for later posts but it’s the first post. I feel the each post has to hold something significant and being the first it should target some points like an introduction. I’ve had this first post in mind for a very long time. I was thinking I should just write something quick like “Hello world, Rice Dog is up!” and just continue from there but I felt that was too rash and ugly and not what I wanted to project for this site. I also wanted to write a praise to Macromedia to say how wonderful Flash is and how it’s changed my life because this site will exhibit many of my Flash work. I had a lot to say in this first post but I didn’t and I wont because I’ll know I’ll just procrastinate. Another thing that held me back since I adopted the site Rice Dog was that I didn’t have a mascot in mind. There’s many aspects that I want this dog to have and although I can explain them, I’d rather just point out exactly what I want:
Poochie from one of the greatest games ever, Yoshi’s Island
Anyway I’ve run out of fuel and I’m getting kind of tired but at least the first post is done. So hopefully a long run of better posts will come and this site will hopefully become a little bit more livelier.
